THURSDAY 5/10 GA: What kind of decision-making spaces does Occupy Philly need?

[PLEASE FORWARD TO ALL OCCUPY WORKING GROUPS]

[OP Media folks... this doesn't need to be put on the main page!]

Thursday, May 10th at the Friends Center, 7pm:
Special Occupy Philly General Assembly to create the kinds of decision-making spaces that we need to keep up the fight!

Background:
Since our eviction from Dilworth, Occupy Philly General Assemblies have become much more hit-or-miss.  The good news is that we've had a number of really powerful, packed GAs during the winter and early spring.  The bad news is that we've also had a number of GAs where we couldn't make any real decisions because almost nobody was there.  This has become a big problem for folks that travel out to GAs only to find that nothing is going on.   At the small GA last Thursday, the feeling was that rather than keep doing what we're doing, we need to stop, reflect, figure out what we actually need, and then make it happen!

What to expect:
The 5/10 meeting is intended to be a decision-making meeting.  We will have a conversation about what Occupy Philly needs, what's worked, what hasn't, and then we will develop proposals for how to go forward.  Do we want to change the way that General Assemblies work?  Do we still think that General Assemblies are the right space for us to make collective decisions?  Is there a better way for us to do it?  We may not figure it all out, but we will at least make some concrete next steps.  We will also do everything we can to make this meeting as action-packed and mutually supportive as possible!

If you have ideas/concerns/whatever that you know you would like to bring up in this GA, bounce them off other Occupy folks you know, and then share them online so more people can think about them beforehand.  You should either post them onto the Occupy Philly Media website, or email them to May10@artnoise.net.  (Please make sure to note whether or not you'll be at the GA, what you do with Occupy, and whether or not you've shared your thoughts with anybody else before sending them out.)

I hope to see you all there!

PS: If there are any changes to the time/place of this meeting, check for email announcements as well as updates on facebook or the Occupy Philly Media website.
