Update on Solidarity Arrests Today in Philly at Comcast for Oakland General Strike!

2:30 a.m. update

The participants in the Comcast occupation were released from the Roundhouse early this morning.

10:30 p.m. update:

According to a rep from the Occupy Philly legal working group, the arrestees from the Comcast sit-in earlier today are being charged with misdemeanors. It's only a guestimate right now, but they may be released from the Roundhouse at 3 a.m. There are currently about twenty-five folks doing jail solidarity outside the Roundhouse; they'd appreciate company, especially to greet the arrestees when they are released.

7:30 p.m. update:

Following a lunchtime solidarity march in Philly's city center today in solidarity with the Oakland General Strike, several dozen people from Occupy Philly staged a nonviolent sit-in in Comcast's lobby, also in solidarity with Oakland. Nine people were arreste in the lobby and one person was arrested outside. Many people offered solidarity to the Philly arrestees by encircling the waiting police vans prior to their arrest.

A group of Occupy Philly folks are now at the Roundhouse police headquarters, where the arrestees are being held, to lend solidarity. They are asking other folks to join them tonight, and would appreciate hot chocolate and coffee, blankets and gloves, cigarettes and food, for those waiting outside--and for when the arrestees are released later.

Occupy Philly has been informed by the legal working group that there is a possibility the arrestees from the Oakland solidarity action today at Comcast may need bail this evening. To contribute to the bail fund, go to http://phillyoccupation.org, and click on “DONATE.” When you make a donation, please indicate with a note on the PayPal site that this is for “bail.”

Earlier today, the solidarity march gathered several hundred people to wind through center city, with chants like "I am Scott Olsen; this is Oakland," "Get up, get down, there's solidarity in this town," "100% love Oakland."

Personal note from OccupyPhillyMedia.org: we're proud that of the nine arrestees, three were from our media working group!
