1: The message is crystal clear and easy to comprehend - the wealth in the United States has become extremely lopsided. This wealth has allowed the top 1% of individuals and the largest corporations to buy and sell almost all of our politicians. We think this has had dire consequences for America. End of message.

2: The accomplishments so far:

- ABC news reports that 1 million people have closed their bank accounts and switched to credit unions and local banks since occupy announced bank transfer day!

Last Tuesday, October 4th was the second General Assembly meeting in Philadelphia. Assembled in pulsing solidarity with the Wall Street Occupation, and by rapid and disciplined direct democracy, a church stuffed to the brim with nearly a thousand people managed to decide what action should be taken. The decision was to seize space at City Hall, set up an occupation, and make it a base of operations.

For me, that meeting was electrifying. Since then, days have been like years.

General Assembly Notes 11/5/11 and "Stay or Go from Dilworth Plaza?" Discussion

Last night was the first in the structured discussion around the question of "should we stay or should we go?" which the facilitation working group has proposed take place over the next 3 nights, ultimately ending in a proposal (based on the discussion and trying to meet everyone's needs) to be voted on, on Friday 11/11/11.

Facilitation brought this discussion plan to CoCo yesterday and got approval, based on the idea that the GA is not yet ready to decide this crucial question, and we need more consensus-building before Occupy Philly can decide what it is going to do about the end of the permit / construction beginning on Dilworth Plaza within the month.

Last night focused on the strategic and logistical implications of leaving Dilworth / People's Plaza, and was structured around breakout groups of 6-8 people.  everyone i spoke to said it was a much more productive and respectful forum than previous GAs addressing the question.

Our goal for tonight's version of the ongoing discussion will be the opposite question of "what are the strategic and logistical implications of keeping the occupation at Dilworth / People's Plaza?"

November 6 Marks One Month of Our Occupation!

There's lots to do and tons to celebrate today, as our directly democratic and do-it-ourselves occupation in Philly hits the one-month mark. If you're not already there, head to our city center commune for working groups, food, music, talks, conversations, the general assembly, music, friendship, and more--and stay a while, join in, bring your neighbors...
